ZAP4E1 is a PCI interface card allowing to process 4xE1 streams in standard or SB computers. |

This feature, based on Zapata Telephony Project, allows signaling conversion between E1 equipments and PBX's and provides inexpensive connection of E1 channel banks with IP circuits. Because of the fact that ZAP4E1 improves I/O speed by up to 5 times, the result is reduced CPU usage and increased card density per server. The Zapata Telephony Project brought the concept of bringing legacy TDM interfaces in to software telephony projects, such as Asterisk PBX. The Zapata Telephony Project created a set of drivers called zaptel. TDM interfaces (such as a T1 or E1) use zaptel drivers, to break up their serial stream in to chunks (frames) that represent channels. These channels are in turn brought in to Asterisk PBX for the telephony operators usage. ECoCoMS has designed the ZAP4E1 to be fully compatible with TE405P/TE4010P, wich allows to be compatible with existing software applications and it is fully integrated with the Asterisk Open Source PBX/IVR platforms. Also, the open source zaptel driver supports an API interface for custom application development. With the combination of ECoCoMS Hardware and Asterisk software, numerous combinations of telephony configurations are possible. From the traditional PBX to VoIP Gateways. ECoCoMS solutions are paving the way for a new generation of worldwide communications. The ZAP4E1 supports industry standard telephony and data protocols, including Primary Rate ISDN (both N. American and Standard Euro) protocol families for voice, PPP, Cisco, HDLC, and Frame Relay data modes. Both line-side and trunk-side interfaces are supported with advanced call features. ECoCoMS boards are IP Cores based and implemented with only one FPGA with all needed hardware included. This allows a high scalabilty and easy new features to be implemented.
